School days back when I was in India are the most memorable days in my life. My school life had many friends, many interesting incidents, many interesting people, many interesting teachers. We had 7 hour periods in a day where every hour we have a new teacher. The main difference between schools in India and here is that in India teachers rotate from one classroom to another. But here, students rotate. :)
My favorites out of all was the last class at the end of the day. Sometimes if teacher didnt come, we were declared to go and play, we used to call it 'PT' class. If our friends' teacher was absent and they are going to a PT class, we considered them very lucky. Thats the best class ever for me. You are free to play 'whatever' you want. No obligations. I used to grab a ball and we made a group and just play 'Catches'. Some of the guys played pingpong. Sometimes I played badminton. Or we just used to do running race across the playground. It felt nice to come out of the classroom and breathe the air.
Also between periods if there is a lap, people used to ask me to sing a song. I used to sing after asking me hundred times, usually the current hit song is the one thats requested. As soon as a new movies hit the theatre, students know what songs are becoming popular and in school only those songs are appreciated.
And there is a lunch time we called it 'interval'. This is after 4 periods. Hunger hits as the 4th period is ending that our brains used to stop working.
We all sit together and start eating what we got. Usually mom's give the food so some of our friends didnt even know until they open the tiffin box. But they used to hate if they dont like it. Its almost an hour time. Then as it ends, we will see students entering classrooms.
Then the periods start again. Our hindi period was the most fun period as the instructor was very jovial and we used to read poems infront of him and not very strict. Whereas our History class was the most boring class. I always thought who cares what happened in the past. For me Science class was the best especially the 'Biology' Chapter as we talk about plants. In general. Science classes till 6th class were fun as each Chapter used to only talk about one topic: Air, Water, Pollution and so on.
As I grew older, I started to dislike Science as it lost its simplicity. English class we always had a strict teacher and also used to make somebody stand in the class and read a paragraph.
It wasnt a great experience. Only if you know you like something, you know you dislike something else. Just like that, all subjects are not interesting. But unfortunately you needed them all for going to the next class.
We had a library class every Tuesday where we go to our library and read books. This was nice too. In general any class that doesnt have an instructor. I am all up for those :)
Every saturday, we had to wear a white uniform. Unfortunately for girls it was such a problem. But the last two periods, we had cultural programs where we had a skit competition, story telling, Hindi recitation and even Singing.
Finally Sunday was the day when we get a complete break. Backthen, Sundays used to be so precious as we didnt have 2 day weekends.
Back then everything was special, even the excitement to get new notebooks every year, new color flaps, new shoes, new uniforms. Even new teachers. Today when I think about those days,
I feel so privileged to have spent my school life that way which I can recollect again and again and feel as if I am living it now.
